Lead by with feedback from our GitHub and Discord communities, the fresh look also brings some important technology upgrades that improve the website behaviour on mobile devices, and adds new features for the live games list. We are also today deploying a brand new website design. The new OpenRA website brings a new look and improved functionality.
This does unfortunately mean dropping support for some older systems (typically 10+ years old) that currently can run OpenRA, but we believe that this is a necessary tradeoff for the future. Moving away from the legacy OpenGL 2.1 is important for future compatibility with modern rendering APIs (Vulkan/Metal) and for improving rendering performance with Tiberian Sun and the C&C Remastered Collection.
These features and more will be explained in more detail in the upcoming release spotlight, but for now you can look back over the previous news posts or the full changelog for more information.Īn important compatibility note is that OpenRA now requires GPU support for either OpenGL 3.2, DirectX 11, or OpenGL ES 3.
We had originally planned to announce this release with a new patch spotlight video, but an unfortunately timed computer failure has left FiveAces’ battlefield control offline until repairs are completed. Today is the day that many have been waiting for: the new stable OpenRA Release 20210321 is now available! The principle of "rock, scissors, paper" in its pure form and sometimes resembles a simplified version of the great and powerful StarCraft. On the other hand, the Russians simply do not have such technical capabilities as any other Alliance country, which includes global intelligence, technical espionage, and so on. The sides are radically different from each other, and if the Russians can take the pressure of manpower and equipment, then the Alliance should be careful because of the fragility of their tanks. ĭespite the arcade nature of the action, you still have to think, and often have a long time. Here is a short list: an Iraqi soldier-desolator who cooks juicy green biomass from enemies, an Alliance cronolegioner capable of erasing any object from fate and tape of time, a Libyan truck equipped with a powerful explosive charge with a capsule containing radioactive waste.
The second part was overgrown with even more exaggerated propaganda slogans of both sides (recall, the series tells about the end of the Cold War, and not at all in a peaceful way), the inspirational voices of instructors and command, as well as more than a dozen additional means of mass destruction for your sadistic comfort. The whole series of C & C, in addition to hurricane gameplay, is also saturated with liters of juicy and poisonous cynicism, which is especially “good” in Red Alert.
Under the outer top-down shell and the familiar “divine” mouse, we have a game that is not inferior to the excitement of a dashing arcade game, and by the number of clicks per second of real time - beating all records of the unforgettable Diablo. Red Alert was the ancestor of that amazing real-time strategy direction, which I myself call Tactical Slash.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 is a worthy sequel of a no less worthy ancestor.
